Recently, the hot topic in the Crypto Assets market revolves around whether the "alt season will reappear". As an industry observer, I have to admit that the current market environment is vastly different from previous years, and a full-blown altcoin rally is likely difficult to replicate.
To deeply understand this phenomenon, we need to clarify several key points. First, what is "alt season"? In short, it refers to the period when many small-cap crypto assets experience a collective surge. In past bull markets, the flow of funds often follows a certain pattern: first pushing up Bitcoin, then shifting to mainstream tokens like Ethereum, and finally flowing into small-cap coins. At that time, even randomly selecting a few altcoins could also yield some gains.
However, the formation of the alt season requires three conditions to be met simultaneously: First, the technical aspects of the alts themselves must show positive signals, or be in an upward trend after a correction; second, the market atmosphere must be active, with investors generally experiencing a strong FOMO (fear of missing out) mentality; third, the mainstream coins' price increases are nearing their ceiling, and a large amount of capital is eager to find new breakthroughs. Without any one of these conditions, even with intent, it is difficult to ignite a large-scale market.
Moreover, the alt season is closely related to the performance of Bitcoin. In the traditional model, Bitcoin acts as the leader, first completing a round of upward movement before entering a consolidation phase, during which mainstream tokens take over. After these coins' market conditions reach a certain point, capital will spill over into the altcoin market, potentially triggering the alt season. However, currently, mainstream tokens like Ethereum are performing poorly, hovering at the bottom alongside EOS and others. In this situation, secondary altcoins naturally struggle to make progress.
In summary, the current market landscape has changed, and investors need to maintain a clear understanding while carefully assessing risks and opportunities.
