Zelensky has long sought a commitment from Trump to deter any progress Russia might make under a future ceasefire agreement. Trump has avoided making any such guarantees for months, refusing to publicly discuss the prospects of U.S. support. However, before Friday's bilateral talks, Trump indicated to European and Ukrainian leaders that he would be willing to make this commitment under certain conditions. If Trump discusses the possibility of security guarantees on Friday, both Ukraine and its European allies will breathe a sigh of relief, as this would indicate the president is seriously supportive of Ukraine in any potential ceasefire.
